• M. Butterfly opened at the National Theatre in Washington DC on February 10th, 1988.
• Opened on Broadway on March 20th, 1988 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. It closed on January 27th, 1990 after 777 performances. 
• Directed by John Dexter - He is also known for his work directing such plays as Roots by Arnold Wesker in 1959 and Eqqus by Peter Shaffer in 1973. M. Butterfly was his final grand success.
